Change is inevitable

Change is inevitable and as a result being good at managing change is essential to ensuring a productive and effective workplace.

Recognising how the effective use of different communication styles and leadership approaches at different stages of the change process is critical to effectively moving in the direction we need to go.  It will also reduce and minimise the resistance to change.

Organisational change can occur for many different reasons and as a result of different drivers, some of the most common types of organisational change you may experience are changes to:

  • the size or makeup of the workforce
  • structure, mergers or restructures
  • leadership positions
  • focus, strategy and priorities
  • culture and values
  • practices and/or services
  • systems and processes
  • legislation or regulatory change.

The scale of the change will also drive which change approach suits best. Some elements that are likely to effect the scale of a change are:

  • the cost of the change
  • the size of the expected benefits the change will bring
  • the degree or depth of impact on employee/stakeholders
  • the range of the stakeholders that will be involved in the change
  • the potential risks that need to be managed
  • the number of simultaneous changes required to effect the overall change.

To support effective change management we have provided a number of resources and templates.
