Whole of Government Emergency Management Staffing Process
In times of disaster in Tasmania, the whole of the State Service need to pool their resources to provide accurate and current information and support to the public.
The Interoperability Arrangements for the sharing of skilled resources in Tasmania enables the deployment of employees from all State Service Departments when emergencies occur.
We regularly call for interested employees to join the Emergency Management Registers.
Employees from these registers are deployed for periods to other Agencies during times of emergencies. Employees do not need prior emergency management experience to register.
If you have any questions about the Registers or the application process please contact People and Culture.
Interoperability Arrangements Register
The Interoperability Arrangements (IA) are formal arrangements where skilled employees are deployed from one agency to another, to assist with the management or coordination of a significant, complex or protracted emergency event. It is important to note the IA do not relate to first response or the front line operational response to emergencies eg fire fighting.
Emergency management educational sessions and/or exercises are provided throughout the year to employees on the register.
If you are interested in applying, you are encouraged to discuss this with your manager and then forward the approved forms to Interoperability via your immediate supervisor or manager

Recovery Staffing Register
A Recovery Taskforce, a temporary unit or division within DPaC, may be established following a significant natural disaster or other emergencies such as pandemics or acts of terrorism. A Taskforce supports the affected communities and coordinates a whole-of-government recovery effort. In recent years Taskforce’s were established following the 2013 bushfires and the 2016 floods because the damage was extensive and the required response from government stretched across multiple agencies. Deployment from this register is for a minimum of six months.
Areas within the taskforce include but not limited to community engagement; policy, communications, finance and administration support.
No previous experience is necessary but you will need to have high-level interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively as a member of a team; ability to work in a high-pressure and time critical environment.
If you are interested in applying, you are encouraged to discuss with your manager and forward the approved form to Interoperability via your immediate supervisor or manager
